Post-Colonial Storytelling in Algeria

Poetry Reading & Discussion | 7 July 19:00

Join SAFAR Film Festival and the Poetry Translation Centre for an evening of film, poetry and discussion exploring post-colonial storytelling in Algeria.

The poet, sociologist and anthropologist Habib Tengour is one of the most visionary voices of post-colonial Algeria. His poetry is steeped in the imaginative and cultural geography of the Maghreb: exile and dislocation only serving to heighten its musical registers.

Ahead of the screening of Djafar Gacem’s Heliopolis, Tengour will read excerpts in French and English from his new bi-lingual collection Consolatio and discuss his life and work, and the collaborative translation process with his co-translators Will Harris and Delaina Haslam.
